Disney On Ice Magic in the Stars is coming to Melbourne this winter

If your kids love Disney stories, singalong songs and spectacular live shows, this is one event to put straight into the calendar. Disney On Ice presents Magic in the Stars is skating into Melbourne this winter, bringing one of the biggest Disney productions ever to Rod Laver Arena.

This dazzling new show features 56 Disney characters, incredible figure skating, high flying acrobatics and stunning stage effects that transform the arena into a magical storytelling world on ice.

Even better, Melbourne fans can get early access to the best seats by signing up as a Disney On Ice Preferred Customer (here) before the official ticket release.

How to get Disney On Ice pre sale tickets in Melbourne

Tickets for Disney On Ice Magic in the Stars will be released in stages, but the smartest way to secure great seats is through the Disney On Ice Preferred Customer pre sale.

Disney On Ice Preferred Customers can purchase tickets from Tuesday 17 March, well before general tickets go on sale.

If you read this after the date, use the code D37RM to access the Feld presale, before the tickets go on general public sale on Apr 28.

What to expect at Disney On Ice Magic in the Stars

Disney On Ice is known for turning beloved Disney stories into a live spectacle, and this brand new production brings together classic Disney favourites and modern hits in one magical show.

The adventure begins with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Daisy guiding the audience through a journey across Disney worlds.

Families can expect to see characters from:

  • Moana
  • Frozen 2 with Elsa and Anna
  • Encanto with Mirabel and the Madrigal family
  • Toy Story with Woody, Buzz and Jessie
  • The Princess and the Frog with Tiana
  • Aladdin
  • Cinderella, Snow White, Belle and Rapunzel

One of the most exciting moments is the on ice debut of Raya from Raya and the Last Dragon, performing an incredible aerial acrobatic routine.

Fans of Pixar will also love seeing Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater from Cars cruise onto the ice in a high energy moment set to Life Is A Highway.

Show order – here’s the Disney magic expecting to see

Disney On Ice presents Magic in the Stars features a high-energy, revolving program focused on the theme of wishing, featuring over 55 characters, new aerial acrobatics, and a mix of classic and modern Disney stories.

The show is generally divided into 2x 45 min acts with a 20-minute intermission (running for a total of approx. 1h45min) 

Here is the performance order:

Act I (around 50 min)

  • Opening: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy open the show. Jiminy Cricket descends to introduce the theme of wishing 10 min
  • The Princess and the Frog: Tiana pursues her dream of opening a restaurant 3-4 min
  • Aladdin: A segment featuring the Cave of Wonders, Genie, and the song “Friend Like Me” and “A Whole New World” 10+ min
  • Toy Story: Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Rex, and Hamm have to defeat Zorg – with fun giant balloons thrown into the audience 5 min 
  • Wish: Asha and Star make their on-ice debut, skating to “This Wish” 2-3 min 
  • Princess Segment: A medley featuring Cinderella 4 min, Belle 2-3 min, Snow White 2 min, and Rapunzel 2-3 min
  • Raya and the Last Dragon: On-Ice Debut. Raya performs a spectacular aerial acro-pole routine 3-4 min
  • Act I Closing: An extended princess number featuring “Wish Now” 2-3 mi

20 min intermission

Act II

  • Cars: Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater drive onto the ice to “Life Is A Highway” 4-5 min 
  • Encanto: A major segment focused on the Madrigal family, featuring “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “The Family Madrigal” 10 min 
  • Frozen 2: Elsa and Anna, accompanied by Olaf, perform “Some Things Never Change” and “Into the Unknown” 8 min
  • Moana: A segment featuring Moana’s journey, “How Far I’ll Go,” and Te Kā/Te Fiti 8 min
  • Finale: Mickey, Minnie, and the entire cast return for a final musical number.

The show emphasises that the brightest star is within you, tying all the stories together.

I have to say the performances are quite short, around 2-5 min, but they fit in a lot of songs and characters that way! The longer performances are super fun and quite spectacular, lasting around 5-10 min each. 

We personally loved Aladdin with the stunts, Raya’s aerial performance was MIND BLOWING! and Moana was an absolute spectacle with fire acts as well. 

Thinking of beating the crowds? If your little ones aren’t fussed about seeing the final number, consider ducking out during the last song/finale. It’s a great way to skip the post-show rush, avoid long lines at the exits, and get a head start on your trip home – especially handy with tired kids in tow.

Leaving the car park can take up to 1h and last year it took me over an hour to get through peak hour traffic on Alexandra Ave as well. 

Sing along to your favourite Disney songs

Disney On Ice shows are full of those nostalgic Disney songs everyone knows.

Expect the whole arena to join in with favourites like:

  • Into the Unknown from Frozen
  • We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Encanto
  • Friend Like Me from Aladdin 
  • Journey through magical Disney worlds alongside Moana, Tiana and the Disney Princesses

The show blends music, storytelling, skating and acrobatics, creating a live experience that feels just as magical for adults who grew up with these films.
